For the past years, we have only relied with word of mouth as one of our most effective strategies to spread awareness about something that we want people to know about. But as society continues to evolve together with the technology, social media has emerged and become a vital part of our daily lives. And for the business perspective, it has also become essential for brands to use these platforms in order to reach more audience and promote their respective products and services. Due to this, a massive rise of social media influencers was noticed by many of us, and this trend continues to grow as we move on to a brand-new decade.

As the competition gets tough for the social media stars to secure collaborations with different brands, let us check these ten influencers who amassed a huge following through their social marketing strategies.

Felix Kjellberg

The Swedish Youtuber known to many as PewDiePie started his channel in 2010 by uploading Let’s Play videos, a series in which he plays different horror and action video games. His channel continued to grow and after two years, he reached his first million subscribers, calling them the BroArmy. With this, his contents also expanded, varying with different videos such as playing video games for charities, comedy segments, vlogs, music videos, and meme reviews.

He became the most subscribed YouTube channel from 2013 to early 2019, then lost the spot to T-Series, an Indian music record label and film production company. Nevertheless, he maintained the title of being the most subscribed and most viewed channel operated by an individual, with a whopping 102 million subscribers and 24 billion views. Because of this, The Sunday Times named him as the most influential digital figure across a variety of social media platforms.

Although his sponsorships and tie-ups with big brands such as Revelmode and Google Preferred were short-lived, and have seen his show Scare PewDiePie got cancelled because of the controversies that he was involved with, it was still impressive to see him get back on his feet and remain as one of the most influential people in 2019.

Aside from his YouTube career, he also got his hands full on his other ventures. In 2019, he decided to join DLive, a new live streaming platform which he currently has 752K followers. With the help of other game developers, he also launched his own video games such as PewDiePie: Legend of the Brofist, PewDiePie’s Tuber Simulator, and PewDiePie’s Pixelings. He also has his own PewDiePie Merch and Tsuki, a clothing brand which he co-owned and co-founded with his wife, Marzia Bisognin-Kjellberg. Both clothing lines are widely accepted by fans, and Tsuki has now opened a pop-up store in Toronto.

Marzia Bisognin-Kjellberg

Now recognized as the wife of PewDiePie, Marzia Kjellberg, formerly known as CutiePieMarzia, is an Italian influencer who also started her career by uploading contents on YouTube in 2012, focusing on beauty, fashion, interiors, books, DIYs, photography, video editing and graphic designing. She also shared her travel vlogs and hauls with Felix and other friends. Her channel became one of the most popular in beauty and makeup genre which garnered over 16 million views.

On October 2018, she uploaded her last video and announced her retirement on YouTube, and her channel has accumulated 128 million views right after her statement. Although some fans were saddened to see her leave the platform, still, many fans wished her good notes, and her YouTube channel has maintained an impressive 7.67M subscribers.

Moving on to other ventures, she continued to market herself by designing her own clothing lines, such as Lemon, Amore, and Tsuki, and launched other products such as home décors, nail polishes, and fragrances. She also decided to have her own subscription box wherein she partners with other beauty brands in which she feels right to promote because of the multi-benefits of the products for the skin; is vegan, and cruelty free. With this, a lot of brands reached out to her and in turn, her subscription box is well received by consumers and fans.

On July 2018, she launched Mai, her personal brand in which she features her hand-made jewelleries, potteries, and other home décor designs.

Her products are always sold out, which shows that her hand in business is getting positive reviews, and her influence is still bright despite her lack of activeness in some social media platforms in the recent months.

Mark Edward Fischbach

Another YouTube star who is known for his playthroughs of indie and horror games, Mark Fischbach aka Markiplier, joined the platform on March 2012. Because of his series of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Five Nights at Freddy’s, his channel immediately grew and in 2014, he was ranked 61st at the Top 100 Channels on NewMediaRockstars.

Like many other social media stars, he also had his shares of ups and downs. Despite taking a short break from YouTube in 2015 following the death of his friend Daniel Kyre, Markiplier went back, and his channel has gained 10 million subscribers. Due to this incident, he used YouTube and his other platforms to spread awareness about suicide attempts and encourage everyone who has been battling depression to seek for help. In 2017, his contract with Revelmode was also cancelled when the subnetwork disbanded as a result of PewDiePie’s controversies at the time.

After dealing with these unfortunate events, he uploaded an interactive Choose Your Own Adventure style video called “A Date with Markiplier”. Due to the positive reviews of this, his channel has grown into 15 million subs. In 2019, he released another interactive video with the same style called “A Heist with Markiplier”, a YouTube Originals production in which he was named as one of the producers.

Following the success of A Heist, he launched another YouTube channel called Unus Annus with fellow Youtuber Ethan Nestor wherein they will upload a video everyday and after a year, the said channel along with the videos will be deleted permanently. Unus Annus quickly became popular and garnered 1.5 million subscribers in just five days.

Mark’s other ventures consist of his own merchandise, and a clothing brand called Cloak which he created with Jacksepticeye. He has also voiced the character 5.0.5. in the Cartoon Network series Villainous. And in 2019, he also co-produced and appeared in a post-apocalyptic audiodrama podcast titled Edge of Sleep.

From being a fan, he eventually became good friends with Felix, and in turn, he received more recognition and gained fans of his own. Even though his videos contain a lot of swearing, it appears that people react to this positively, and he now has 23.1 million subscribers on his channel. He was also ranked as the most-subscribed channel in Ireland.

As part of Revelmode, he hosted a charity livestream in 2016 called Cringemas together with PewDiePie, Markiplier, and other fellow youtubers for the benefit of AIDS victims. They reportedly raised over $1.3 million, and he has since continued to do other charity livestreams, whether on his own or in collaboration with other people. One of the recent successful charity livestream he did was collaborated with Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke in 2019, wherein they raised over $260,000 for the benefit of the charity SameYou, an organization that helps increase neuro-rehabilitation access after brain injury and stroke.

Because of his friendship with PewDiePie, he too had been dragged down with the controversies and lost his contract with Revelmode. Nevertheless, the two remained good friends up to this day.

Venturing on his own, he signed a contract with Disney Digital Network and has been featured in various projects such as Disney XD and Polaris: Player Select. He also went on tour in US with How Did We Get Here tour and in Europe with Game Grumps for Ready Player 3 tour.

In May 2018, he uploaded a video of him with Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool. It seemed like the two formed a good friendship that Jack announced that he will be having a cameo in an upcoming movie of Ryan called Free Guy. He was also present in the yellow carpet premiere of Detective Pikachu in Japan, in which Ryan starred last year. Due to this exposure, he landed himself with a couple of new gigs interviewing some of the biggest Hollywood stars such as Jason Momoa, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Heart, and Jack Black.

His other ventures consist of running his own merch and Cloak, a clothing brand that he co-founded with fellow youtuber Markiplier.
